dc.description.abstractThe central hypothesis of this thesis was that HIV psychosis and mania are overlapping manifestations of the neuropathophysiological consequences of HIV characterized by symptoms suggestive of sub-acute delirium and cognitive impairment. It was also hypothesised that HIV-associated mania and psychosis are AIDS-defining features and should be indications for antiretroviral treatment.en_ZA
