Abstract
This thesis investigates how GIS can be used in the planning process of informal settlements. Tables, maps and models were created to demonstrate how these data sources could be used to assist in the planning process. Three environmental factors namely, slope, soil and drainage were analysed, reclassified, weighted and computed to create the site suitability map.
