In this thesis, I investigate the economic linkages between internal labour migration and the welfare of migrant-sending households and communities. The analysis is couched in the new economics of labour migration theory, which recognises the familial participation in migration decisions and therefore the potential role of economic linkages between migrants and their original households.en_ZA
