Series
Abstract
In this video, sociologist Deborah Posel, discusses the philosophical implications of death, arguing that death is integral to what we understand by "life". She also discusses the symbolic investment in death in human societies and what the treatment of death can tell is about how societies function. She also focuses on how the corpse is used as a powerful, paradoxical, and sometimes taboo representation of both life and death. This is the second video in Week 6 of the Medicine and the Arts Massive Open Online Course.
