This thesis deals with the applicability of Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) techniques for ascertaining the extent of water pollution by analyzing scales of fish that live in polluted waters. As a fish grows, ions from its immediate environment are incorporated into the matrix of the fish scale and so scales can be used as biomarkers of pollution events.en_ZA
