This thesis aims to establish the relationships that exist between the: competencies, cognitive capacity, and personality of successful corporate recovery executives, their choice of recovery strategies, their structuring of key organisational processes, and the financial success of the business organisations they manage. Two groups of business organisations were selected, based on four criteria, namely profit growth, revenue growth, return on sales and return on assets. The investigation group of nine organisations which have been successfully recovered was compared with a comparison group of seven organisations with declining financial performance, in terms of the above variables. The results of this study indicate that in terms of intervention strategies, the business organisations which have been successfully recovered, in comparison to those organisations in decline, differed significantly in their choice of intervention strategies, the activities they engage in and the issues on which they spend their time.en_ZA
