The Practical Aproach to Lung Health in South Africa (P ALSA) initiative aims to improve the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory diseases in primary care. An algorithm-based syndromic guideline integrating common respiratory diseases for nurses was developed after review of a generic respiratory guideline, medical literature, local policies, and qualitative research.
