The primary concern that prompted this thesis is the growing separation between product and source in contemporary culture . The current consumer culture gives little thought to where products come from. This phenomenon is prevalent within architecture too; much contemporary work is purely image-based, following ever-changing international trends which often result in buildings which are inappropriate to their context. Basic principles of how a building relates to its site and surrounds have been negated in a time of increasing commercial and economic pressure.en_ZA
