Abstract
The jembe drum is a goblet shaped hand drum from West Africa. This dissertation addresses the need for a memory tool to assist jembe drumming students in Cape Town in retaining aural learning, specifically West African jembe drumming ensemble pieces. The need for this tool stems from the limited amount of access students have to accurate West African jembe ensemble repertoire, due to there being few authoritative West African jembe teachers here.
