Child abuse in different forms, ranging from domestic violence against children to sexual abuse, is a worldwide phenomenon with a dramatic influence on the future of the abused child. In African countries, the number of reported cases is rising which may be a result of increased awareness amongst medical staff and parents. In sub-Saharan Africa, outside South Africa, there has been limited research on child abuse, in particular on child sexual abuse, and little is known about the extent of health services offered to the victims.en_ZA
