The research attempted to model the trip generation and the subsequent modal splits resulting thereof. The sketch planning tool to be developed attempted to predict within reasonable accuracy limits, the travel trends and hence the transport modes used for the undertaking of these trips. To gain an in depth understanding of the task, the "status quo" mobility conditions for Windhoek had to be well understood. Only once when the existing trends are fully understood, can one begin to derive a model that is able to model, the expressed mobility trends.en_ZA
