dc.description.abstract | This study has aimed to contribute to the development of low-cost or "simple" biogas technology, i.e. the design, construction, operation and utilisation of relatively simple biogas systems in South Africa, and to explore the utilisation of the technology by lower-income groups in the rural areas of the country, particularly in the former homelands. Specific objectives included the development of biogas plants suitable for application in South Africa, and the assessment of the acceptability of the technology among potential users. Five biogas plants were constructed during the study, which provided the opportunity to test various designs and obtain response from some of the potential users of the technology. | en_ZA |
