In 2009, Anchor (the service provider responsible for the telephone survey for 2008/09) reported that there was an error in the method used for drawing the random numbers to be used to select permit holders to call for the telephone surveys which are conducted every two weeks (see Johnston and Butterworth 2009 for details). The correct method would be to draw the random numbers from all currently registered permit holders, i.e. those that had bought permits from the start of the season to the then current date. What had occurred (incorrectly) however, was that random telephone numbers were being drawn only from permit holders who had bought permits in the previous two weeks.en_ZA
