The main objective of this research is to analyse critically the methodology used by the Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-Agency Group (MMEIG) to estimate maternal mortality in countries with high HIV/AIDS prevalence. This study interrogates each of the assumptions (implicit and explicit) in the MMEIG method by reviewing literature/studies that investigated each assumption.en_ZA
