This paper explores the different measures and methods used to integrate socio-economic status into fertility analysis. The most common current practice is to create a single proxy summary measure and enter it as an independent variable in a multiple regression. I compare the consequences of using the different proxies on the estimated impact of socio-economic status and the other determinants of fertility.en_ZA
