Forensic Medicine - Examination of the Intoxicated Driver
    (2021-11-16) De Vaal, Celeste
This video is a re-enactment of the examination of an intoxicated driver within the South African medico-legal framework. It is recommended that the three lightboard videos related to alcohol properties, metabolism and calculations should be seen as part this video. This re-enactment demonstrates the process and relevant skills required to recognise and manage the arrested suspected intoxicated driver. It includes the collection of a blood sample for alcohol concentration determination, various relevant examination skills and correct documentation. This video can be applicable across disciplines from final year medical students to doctors, nursing personnel working with intoxicated drivers and law enforcement officers. This visual tool aims to consolidate theory where “real” skills exposure prior to actual practice is limited, especially within the pressurised time requirements of this examination.
