    In this video, Odette Swift once more, interviews the very eloquent Vera-Genevey Hlayisi who discusses how language and communication development can be facilitated in classrooms. She begins by cautioning teachers to beware of the subtle but important regional differences in Sign Language as in any other language and advises that teachers should consider these as they interact with deaf learners. She then discusses ways of facilitating communication between parents and their deaf children.     In this video, Jeanette Hille discusses the social and emotional development of children and adolescents. Listing the people who impact a child’s development and the role each one plays, she stresses on the importance of communication and how barriers in this domain can hamper the proper development of young people whose physical and emotional changes can be described as a roller-coaster. She says the need for language in expressing these emotions is dire and provides tips that both teachers and parents can use to assist young people in development of the knowledge, skills, attitude and confidence to meet life’s challenges.     TEDI 2 Week 2 - Understanding Additional Barriers to Learning

    In this video, Elnette Kotze talks from her lived experience vantage point. She begins by pre-empting challenges and feelings that teachers of deaf children may face and experience respectively but quickly allays their fears by proposing strategies of handling these. She also discusses the intrinsic and extrinsic barriers that deaf children may experience and offers practical tips on what teachers can do to minimize or overcome the barriers.
