Contingent valuation is the most frequently used stated preference technique, while hedonic pricing analysis is an alternative revealed preference technique employed for the determination of the value attached to a public good. This paper uses both techniques to study the utility generated by Intaka Island, a 16-hectare nature area situated in a rapidly developing area of Cape Town.
