    Emergency service workers' coping in response to traumatic events : associations with psychiatric symptoms

    This study aimed to explore the relationship between coping strategies and posttraumatic symptomology in emergency service workers in the Western Cape. Three fundamental coping strategies were assessed: seeking social support, problem-solving, and avoidance. I hypothesised that seeking social support and problem-solving would be associated with decreased levels of psychiatric symptoms, while avoidance would be associated with increased levels of psychiatric symptoms.
