The unification of the empirical with the theoretical, however, remains limited. The overall aim of my thesis was to address this paucity at Seal Island, South Africa, where recently quantified patterns of predation pressure by white sharks Carcharodon carcharias on Cape fur seals Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus suggested a landscape of fear particularly apposite to this.
