Bipolar Mood Disorder in children and adolescents: in search of theoretic therapeutic and diagnostic clarity
    (2010) Bradfield, Bruce Christopher
I address early onset Bipolar Mood Disorder, exploring the ways in which the disorder manifests in the lives of children. Complications in current and past literature are clarified, and the dearth of substantive research into the area is noted. I clarify associated risk factors specific to paediatric bipolar disorder. A treatment procedure informed by cognitive-behavioural, narrative and family systems theories is proffered, and is considered in relation to the development of a pharmacological intervention. I highlight shortcomings in psychiatric interventions, and provide a framework for treatment which that takes into account the complex variety of needs which bipolar children present.

A relational psychoanalytic exploration of the intergenerational transmission of trauma from mothers to their adult children
(2011) Bradfield, Bruce Christopher; Gobodo-Madikizela, Pumla
This dissertation aims to investigate and describe the inter-generational transmission of trauma from mothers with a history of interpersonal trauma to their adult children, in the context of the relationship between mother and child. Through this the research aims to articulate the conscious and unconscious relational and intra-psychic processes by which trauma is transmitted from mothers to their adult children.
