dc.description Includes bibliographical references. en_ZA
dc.description.abstract Subordinate, female naked mole-rats (Heterocephalus g/aber) are anovulatory as a result of extremely low luteinising hormone (LH) levels. Evidence suggests that aggression from the dominant female naked mole-rat directed towards subordinates could produce these lowered levels of LH. This study examined two potential hormonal pathways of reproductive suppression in this species: endogenous opioid peptides and cortisol. en_ZA
