Abstract
The anticipated performance, in terms of catch and risk of resource depletion, of two candidate OMPs for the South African hake resources (each with three different resource recovery tunings) is evaluated. Both OMPs are empirically-based, given that this form of OMP has outperformed all production-model based approaches attempted to date. One of the candidate
OMPs also attempts to react more quickly to recent productivity trends by including a recruitment index. These candidate OMPs are then tested over a set of robustness trials. The candidate OMPs appear reasonably robust over the fairly wide range of scenarios considered in these trials.
