Abstract
This paper examines whether social networks have an effect on the decision to participate in the labour market by individuals in the greater Cape Town area. By using the fourth wave of the Cape Area Panel Study (CAPS) this paper empirically confirms previously examined results of a network effect for employment prospects while confirming that no network effect is present for labour discouragement.
