    Open textbook development encompasses a life cycle of activities, in which authors need to give consideration to a range of activities based on the problem they are trying to address, including authorship strategy, identification of delivery mechanisms, production and publishing approaches, quality assurance mechanisms, as well as dissemination and uptake. This interactive session introduces open textbook authors and OER practitioners to the life cycle of open textbook development, highlighting different models and approaches seen in the Digital Open Textbooks for Development project at the University of Cape Town.

    Open Textbooks in South African Higher Education

    This is a presentation by the Digital Open Textbooks for Development (DOT4D) project team for a virtual round table event that took place in July 2021. The event was held with higher education managers, librarians and academic development practitioners and provided an opportunity for these stakeholders to have an exploratory conversation around possible areas of collaboration and identify practical, implementable steps that can be taken to support this area of work going forward.
