In particular, the study looks at the reasons behind professional migrants from Zambia to South Africa, taking Cape Town as a case study. The analysis is anchored around five different theoretical frameworks which explain migration from a micro and macro perspective. Theories founded on micro principles are the traditional push and pull theory and the Todaro model. The theory social networks completes the set of micro based models of migration. The two macro theories are the equilibrium and the new international division of labour, which look at the economic inequalities between sending and host regions
