Secondary shoulder impingement is thought to be primarily responsible for shoulder pain in competitive swimmers. The effective management of shoulder impingement has been widely investigated; however there is minimal consensus on the optimal method of treatment and rehabilitation of shoulder impingement. In addition, current research does not adequately consider the role of scapulothoracic rehabilitation in the management of shoulder impingement. Aim: To determine the effects of a scapulothoracic rehabilitation programme on shoulder pain in competitive swimmers.
