Significant long-range “ridge-like” correlations are observed for pairs with small relative azimuthal angle (|∆ φ| < π/ 3) and back-to-back pairs (|∆ φ| > 2π/ 3) over the transverse momentum range 0 . 4 < p T < 12 GeV and in different intervals of event activity. The event activity is defined by either the number of reconstructed tracks or the total transverse energy on the Pb-fragmentation side. The azimuthal structure of such long-range correlations is Fourier decomposed to obtain the harmonics v n as a function of p T and event activity. The extracted v n values for n = 2 to 5 decrease with n. The v 2 and v 3 values are found to be positive in the measured p T range. The v 1 is also measured as a function of p T and is observed to change sign around p T ≈ 1 . 5–2.0 GeV and then increase to about 0.1 for p T > 4 GeV. The v 2 ( p T ) , v 3 ( p T ) and v 4 ( p T ) are compared to the v n coefficients in Pb+Pb collisions at √ sNN = 2 .76 TeV with similar event multiplicities. Reasonable agreement is observed after accounting for the difference in the average p T of particles produced in the two collision systems.
- ItemOpen AccessSearch for a standard model Higgs boson in the H→ZZ→ ℓ+ ℓ−ν ̄ν decay channelusing 4.7fb−1of√s=7 TeV data with the ATLAS detector(2012) Aad, G; Abbott, B; Abdallah, J; Abdel Khalek, S; Abdelalim, A A; Abdinov, O; Abi, B; Abolins, M; AbouZeid, O S; Abramowicz, H; Abreu, H; Acerbi, E; Acharya, B S; Adamczyk, L; Adams, D L; Addy, T N; Adelman, J; Adomeit, S; Adragna, P; Adye, T; Aefsky, S; Aguilar-Saavedra, J A; Aharrouche, M; Ahlen, S P; Ahles, F; Ahmad, A; Ahsan, M; Aielli, G; Akdogan, T; Åkesson, T P A; Akimoto, G; Akimov, A VA search for a Standard Model Higgs boson decaying via H→ZZ→ ℓ+ ℓ−ν ̄ν, where ℓ represents electrons or muons, is presented. It is based on proton-proton collision data at √s=7 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC during 2011 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7fb−1. The data agree with the expected Standard Model backgrounds. Upper limits on the Higgs boson production crosssection are derived for Higgs boson masses between 200 GeV and 600 GeV and the production of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass in the range 319–558 GeV is excluded at the 95% confidence level

- ItemOpen AccessSearch for pair-produced long-lived neutral particles decaying to jets in the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter in ppcollisions at √s=8TeV(2015) Aad, G; Abbott, B; Abdallah, J; Abdel Khalek, S; Abdinov, O; Aben, R; Abi, B; Abolins, M; AbouZeid, O S; Abramowicz, H; Abreu, H; Abreu, R; Abulaiti, Y; Acharya, B S; Adamczyk, L; Adams, D L; Adelman, J; Adomeit, S; Adye, T; Agatonovic-Jovin, T; Aguilar-Saavedra, J A; Agustoni, M; Ahlen, S P; Ahmadov, F; Aielli, G; Akerstedt, H; Åkesson, T P A; Akimoto, G; Akimov, A V; Alberghi, G L; Albert, J; Albrand, SThe ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is used to search for the decay of a scalar boson to a pair of long-lived particles, neutral under the Standard Model gauge group, in 20.3 fb−1 of data collected in proton–proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV. This search is sensitive to long-lived particles that decay to Standard Model particles producing jets at the outer edge of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter or inside the hadronic calorimeter. No significant excess of events is observed. Limits are reported on the product of the scalar boson production cross section times branching ratio into long-lived neutral particles as a function of the proper lifetime of the particles. Limits are reported for boson masses from 100 GeV to 900 GeV, and a long-lived neutral particle mass from 10 GeV to 150 GeV.
