And academics are no exception. Universities have webpages profiling their staff. Academic networks, like LinkedIn, Academia.edu and more, are used by researchers around the globe to keep in contact with colleagues and collaborators. And social media are everywhere you turn. As an academic, you want your research outputs to be found and read. Making a difference and having an influence is almost a job requirement. Nowadays, the expectation is that you can be found online. So, what can you do to be aware of how you appear online? And, what can you do to increase your visibility? This will be a session for academics wishing to find out how they can review their existing digital footprints and shadows, make decisions about what kind of online presence they would like and plan how they can achieving it. Several different potential ways of increasing the visibility of themselves, their research and their outputs will be discussed.

UFE is a decision-making framework for enhancing the utility and actual use of evaluations.
- ItemOpen AccessVisibility, impact & online presence for the developing science researcher (MSc, PhD, Postdoc)(2013-08) Goodier, SarahPresented during a Write Science course session focused on building a professional online presence as a researcher, this short piece introduced the students to the concept of online presence. A few tools that can help to represent researchers professionally online were also introduced and briefly discussed. The main message was that taking control of your online footprint, increasing your visibilty, growing your network and measuring the impact of your outputs online can all help build your career in a world where scholarship has become increasingly digital.
