Abstract
This module forms part of the open educational resource “Human Movement Studies for occupational therapists”. The complete resource covers content from biomechanics, kinesiology and ergonomics that is relevant to occupational therapy practice. The resource is targeted at occupational therapy students but is equally relevant for qualified therapists who wish to revise some of the basic scientific concepts underpinning occupational therapy practice.
This module covers basic concepts within kinesiology . Topics include types of movement, types of joints, types of muscle contraction, the different roles of muscles, planes and axes of movement, stability, and movement analysis. Tasks have been created to facilitate understanding, and application exercises are aimed at enabling the application of concepts within scenarios related to occupational therapy practice.
