Abstract
Effective management of pain especially in cancer patients depends on adequate physician knowledge in areas of pain assessment and the use of analgesia. Knowledge, attitudes, practices and beliefs could be a barrier amongst doctors in the management of cancer patients and these attributes were assessed in the greater Durban area by a questionnaire survey by email. 120 questionnaires were sent out bye-mail. 74 questionnaires were analysed giving a 62% response rate.
